Adding Fonts & Watched Folders (Folder Pots)
Connect existing font directories and let TypePOT index newly downloaded fonts automatically.
Adding Font Folders & Files
You don't need to rebuild your font library from scratch. Whether your fonts are scattered across your Downloads folder, organized on an external SSD, or stored in synchronized cloud folders like Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive, TypePOT lets you connect your existing font directories without moving or reorganizing your files.
Simply add the folders you want to work with, and TypePOT takes care of indexing your fonts and keeping your library up to date.
Adding Font Files & Extracting ZIP Archives
Need to add a few fonts or unpack an entire font collection? TypePOT makes it easy to bring in fonts without disrupting your existing workflow.
Drag & Drop Font Files: Drag one or more supported font files directly into the TypePOT window to add them to your active Pot.
Drag & Drop ZIP Archives: Drop a ZIP archive containing fonts to extract its contents and add fonts to your collection.
Choose Your Extraction Destination: Extract fonts to a specific folder or directly into an existing Folder Pot. Keep new fonts organized in the location that works best for you.
Automatic Library Updates: When fonts are extracted into a monitored Folder Pot, TypePOT detects the new files and updates your library automatically.
Whether you're testing a handful of new typefaces, reviewing fonts from a client, or unpacking a large collection, TypePOT helps you get your fonts where they belong with fewer manual steps.
What Is a Folder Pot?
A Folder Pot is a folder linked to TypePOT that the app monitors for changes. It gives you a convenient way to work with fonts stored across different locations while keeping your existing folder structure intact.
Automatic Folder Monitoring
Keep Your Library Up to Date: Add, download, or extract fonts into a monitored folder, and TypePOT detects new files and updates your library automatically.
No Manual Re-Importing: There's no need to repeatedly remove and re-add a folder just because its contents have changed.
Automatic Change Detection: When a font file is removed or moved out of a monitored folder, TypePOT updates its library to reflect the change.
Working with Cloud-Synced Folders
Your font collection doesn't have to live entirely on your computer's internal drive. You can connect folders managed by desktop sync applications such as Google Drive for desktop, Dropbox, and Microsoft OneDrive, provided the folders are accessible through your local file system.
This means you can organize and browse fonts within your existing cloud-synced folder structure without manually importing each file into TypePOT.
A quick note about cloud storage: TypePOT connects to the folders made available by your cloud sync application. It does not directly connect to cloud accounts or replace their synchronization services. Files that are online-only may need to be downloaded or made available locally before TypePOT can read and preview them. Cloud synchronization and file availability are managed by the respective provider.
Adding Individual Font Files
Only need to inspect a few fonts? You don't have to connect an entire folder.
Drag & Drop: Drag one or more supported font files directly into the TypePOT window.
Quick Import: TypePOT indexes the dropped fonts in your active Pot, so you can preview and work with them right away.
This is ideal for testing newly downloaded fonts, reviewing files received from a client, or exploring a small selection before deciding where to keep them.
Your Files Stay Where They Are
TypePOT is designed to work with your existing font collection, not force you to reorganize it.
No Forced File Moves: Connecting a folder doesn't require you to rename, relocate, or reorganize your original font files.
Separate Library Data: Font metadata, custom tags, and project notes are managed separately from your original font files.
Safe to Disconnect: Removing a Folder Pot from TypePOT disconnects it from your workspace without deleting the original folder or its contents.
TypePOT simply gives you a more convenient way to browse, manage, and work with the fonts inside them.
